How to Become a Registered Child Care Provider

Child Care Resource & Referral, with funding through Dubuque County Empowerment, employs one full time Home Consultant and one part time Home Consultant. These consultants work closely with the Department of Human Services. DHS is required to visit 20% of our Registered Child Development Homes. With the Home Consultants, we are able to visit 100% of our newly registered Child Development Homes and 100% of our renewing Child Development Homes. These consultants visit the homes and perform the DHS checklist to ensure that homes are maintaining their registration requirements including: training hours, space requirements, safety needs, and the number of children in care. The consultants also provide valuable technical assistance to providers who are dealing with concerns about child development, parent communication, and legal issues when owning a business.

Home consultants may also have information about available grants or funding for child care providers to expand care or improve quality and health & safety in their business.

For more information on becoming a Registered Child Care Provider please call Cherie Kennedy or Stephanie VanGroll at 563/ 557-1628 or toll free at 866/ 296-5331.
